Hypnotherapy for IBS and gut issues: the mind-gut connection

The earliest research into the benefits of hypnotherapy for IBS and gut-related issues goes back to the early 1980s. Professor Peter Whorwell, along with his hospital colleagues, conducted a randomised control trial in 1984 that demonstrated that hypnotherapy was effective for the treatment – not just management, but resolution – of IBS and similar conditions. This was known as The Manchester Protocol, and today it is more commonly called ‘Gut-Directed Hypnosis’.

From those origins, the efficacy of hypnotherapy as a treatment protocol for gut-related issues has been further studied, providing for a large volume of evidence attesting to its efficacy. A Google Scholar search of ‘hypnotherapy and gut issues’ will show up many results, it’s worth a look!

Some useful articles of the benefits of hypnosis and IBS and gut issues include:

and

We have seen clear evidence of the mind-gut connection, which takes into account physical symptoms, emotional symptoms, and mental processes. We help people with these kinds of issues. In many cases, people using hypnotherapy are not simply finding a way to manage their IBS and gut symptoms, but rather gaining a resolution to them.

We’d be happy to help you.
