Is relaxation necessary for hypnosis?

It isn’t necessary to be relaxed to experience hypnosis (aka the hypnotic trance). People who are stressed, anxious or in pain (or all three!) can still be hypnotised. Hypnosis is not just about being relaxed, it is about focusing your attention

It’s the hypnotherapist’s job to find a way to work with you (to hypnotise you) that meets you where you are. Often this involves relaxation techniques but it doesn’t have to.

Most people report having a very comfortable experience in hypnotherapy, and nearly everyone says they find hypnosis relaxing. If this is something you are worried about please ask! We want to know what’s on your mind so we can help in the best way.
